It’s Saturday. Maybe you just moved in and the apartment is dark. Maybe your lights got cut off Friday and you’ve been sitting there all night hoping they’d come back on. Or maybe you’ve been putting this off all week and now it’s the weekend and you’re wondering if it’s even possible.

Short answer: yes. Seven light companies in Texas process Saturday connections. You have options until 6:00 PM, and one company even works on Sundays.

Here’s exactly who’s open, when they close, and how to get your lights on today.

Which Light Companies Work on Saturdays?

Not every company processes connections on weekends. A lot of them take your application on Saturday, then sit on it until Monday morning. That doesn’t help you right now.

These seven actually get your lights on the same day, Saturday included:

Light CompanySaturday CutoffPlan TypeDeposit
Payless Power6:00 PM CTPrepaid$0 (no credit check)
TXU Energy6:00 PM CTPrepaid + TraditionalVaries by plan
Frontier Utilities6:00 PM CTPrepaid + TraditionalVaries by plan
4Change Energy6:00 PM CTTraditionalCredit check required
Gexa Energy6:00 PM CTTraditionalCredit check required
Reliant Energy5:00 PM CTTraditionalCredit check required
Amigo Energy12:00 PM CTTraditionalCredit check required

Not available on Saturday: Direct Energy, Cirro Energy, Discount Power, APGE, Atlantex Power, and Tara Energy all process connections on weekdays only. If you sign up with one of them on Saturday, your lights won’t come on until Monday.

Cutoff times verified January 2026. Companies can change these, so if you’re reading this later, it’s worth confirming.

Saturday Morning: Your Best Window

If it’s before noon, you have all seven companies to choose from. This is the widest your options get all weekend.

Amigo Energy closes their Saturday processing at noon sharp. So if Amigo is the company you want, get your application in before 12:00 PM CT. After that, they’re done until Monday.

Morning is also when processing tends to be fastest. Fewer people have signed up yet, so the queue at the transmission company (Oncor, CenterPoint, etc.) is shorter. You might have lights within 2 hours if you sign up at 9 or 10 AM.

If you need a traditional plan and want the most options: Saturday morning before noon gives you all seven companies. That matters because when we check multiple companies for $0 deposit traditional plans, more options means a better chance of finding one that’ll take you without a deposit.

Saturday Afternoon: Still 6 Options

After noon, Amigo Energy drops off. But six companies are still processing connections until at least 5:00 PM.

Reliant Energy cuts off at 5:00 PM CT. If Reliant is your target, don’t wait until the last minute. Submit your application by 4:30 PM to be safe. Connection orders take a few minutes to process on their end before they send them to the transmission company.

From noon to 5:00 PM, you still have plenty of options between prepaid and traditional plans.

Saturday Evening: 5 Companies Until 6 PM

After 5:00 PM, Reliant joins Amigo on the closed list. But Payless Power, TXU Energy, Frontier Utilities, 4Change Energy, and Gexa Energy all process connections until 6:00 PM CT.

If it’s 5:30 PM on a Saturday and you still don’t have lights, don’t panic. You have 30 minutes and five companies to work with. Prepaid through Payless Power is the fastest path at this point: no credit check, no approval wait, just sign up and add money.

After 6:00 PM Saturday: No company processes same-day lights. If you sign up after 6:00 PM, your lights will come on Sunday (Payless Power only) or Monday morning (everyone else). Check our same-day page for the latest cutoff info.

What About Sunday?

Sunday is thin. Only Payless Power processes same-day lights on Sundays, and they close at 6:00 PM CT.

Every other company that accepts a Sunday application will hold your order and process it Monday morning. That usually means lights come on Monday by early afternoon.

If you’re reading this on a Sunday and need lights today, Payless Power is your only same-day option. They’re prepaid, no credit check, and you can sign up online. Expect $40-75 to start (that money goes toward your usage, it’s not a fee or deposit you lose).

If it’s already past 6:00 PM on Sunday, the earliest you’ll get lights is Monday morning. Sign up tonight so your application is first in the queue when processing opens.

How Fast Do Saturday Connections Actually Happen?

Once your light company sends the connection order to the transmission company (Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP, TNMP), the actual flip takes about 2-4 hours for most smart meters. Sometimes faster. Sometimes a bit slower on busy days like the first Saturday of the month, when a lot of people are moving.

About 95% of Texas homes have smart meters, which means no one has to physically show up. The transmission company sends a remote signal and your meter turns on. That’s what makes Saturday connections possible in the first place.

The whole timeline looks like this:

  1. You sign up online (5-10 minutes)
  2. The light company processes your enrollment and sends the order (15-60 minutes, depends on the company)
  3. The transmission company processes the connection (1-3 hours typically)
  4. Your lights come on

So from sign-up to lights on, figure 2-4 hours on a normal Saturday. Could be faster if you’re lucky. Could stretch to 6-8 hours on a really busy day. But same-day is same-day.

Saturday Tips: How to Make It Go Faster

Sign up online, not by phone. Most light companies have reduced call center hours on Saturday, and phone agents have to manually enter your info. Online enrollment often triggers automatic processing. You don’t have to wait on hold, and the order goes out faster.

Have your information ready before you start. You’ll need:

  • Full legal name and date of birth
  • Service address with apartment or unit number
  • Social Security number (for traditional plans with a credit check)
  • A way to pay the startup amount (for prepaid plans)

If you know your meter number (called an ESIID), that can speed things up. But it’s not required. The company can look it up from your address.

Check for switch holds first. If you owe money to a previous light company, you might have a switch hold on your meter. That blocks any new company from turning your lights on until the hold is cleared. This can add days to the process. If you think you might have a switch hold, deal with it before signing up with a new company. Our switch hold guide walks through how to check and what your options are.

Go prepaid if speed matters most. Prepaid plans don’t require a credit check or deposit approval. There’s no waiting to find out if you qualify. You sign up, add money, and the connection order goes out immediately. If it’s already mid-afternoon on Saturday and you just need lights on tonight, prepaid is the surest path.

Traditional plans are worth trying first if you have time. Traditional plans cost less per month than prepaid. And a lot of people qualify for $0 deposit even with credit issues, because every company sets their own threshold. We check multiple companies at once to find you one that’ll take you without a deposit. But the approval step adds time, so if it’s already 4:00 PM on Saturday, you might want to go straight to prepaid and switch to a traditional plan later.

Get Your Lights On

We check multiple light companies to find you the best option. Many people qualify for traditional plans with $0 deposit. You always have prepaid as a guaranteed fallback.
