What's an ESIID?

Your Meter's ID Number

ESIID stands for Electric Service Identifier. It's a 17-22 digit number assigned to every electric meter in Texas. Think of it like a Social Security number for your meter.

One Per Address

Each service address has its own ESIID. If you move, you'll get a new one. The number stays with the address, not with you.

On Your Bill

If you already have service, your ESIID is on your light bill. Look near your service address. It's usually labeled "ESIID" or "ESI ID."

Needed for Service

Light companies use your ESIID to connect service to the right meter. Having it ready speeds up the signup process.

Common Questions

Is my ESIID the same as my meter number?

No, they're different. Your ESIID is a database identifier used by light companies and ERCOT. Your physical meter has a separate number printed on it. Both may appear on your bill, but when signing up for service, you need the ESIID.

Why can't I find my address?

If your address doesn't show up, it might be a new construction, or you might be in a non-deregulated area. Try entering just the street number and name without the city. If it still doesn't work, your area may be served by a municipal utility or co-op instead of the deregulated market.

Does my ESIID change if I switch light companies?

No. Your ESIID stays the same no matter which light company you use. It's tied to the physical meter and address, not to the provider. You'll use the same ESIID whether you're with Reliant, TXU, or any other company.

Can someone steal my electricity with my ESIID?

No. Your ESIID just identifies your meter. To actually sign up for service, someone would need to pass credit verification and confirm they live at the address. Your ESIID alone can't be used to steal service or access your account.

What does my ESIID tell you about my meter?

When we look up your ESIID, we can see your meter type (smart meter or older), whether same-day service is possible, and if there's a switch hold blocking new service. We show all this info automatically when you use our lookup tool.
